Guide to CBD

Everything you need to understand CBD, in plain language.

Guide to CBD

New to CBD? You’re in the right place. This guide breaks down what CBD is, how it works, and how to get started, clearly, and without the confusing jargon.

What Is CBD?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a natural compound found in the hemp plant. It’s one of more than a hundred compounds called cannabinoids. The most important thing to know up front: CBD is non-intoxicating, which means it won’t make you feel “high.” That effect comes from a different cannabinoid, THC, not from CBD. CBD is used by millions of people as part of their everyday wellness routine.

Cannabinoids 101

Cannabinoids are the active compounds naturally produced by the cannabis and hemp plants. CBD is the best known, but there are others you may see mentioned:

  • CBD (cannabidiol): the most widely used, non-intoxicating, and the foundation of every CANNIXX product.
  • THC (tetrahydrocannabinol): the compound responsible for the “high” associated with marijuana. It’s intoxicating, and it’s the one CANNIXX leaves out entirely.
  • CBG and CBN: lesser-known “minor” cannabinoids that some products include for variety.

CBD vs. THC: The Key Difference

This is the question most people have, so let’s make it simple. THC is intoxicating; it alters how you think and feel. CBD is not. Both come from the same plant family, but they affect the body very differently. Hemp, the source of CBD products, is legally defined as containing only trace amounts of THC (0.3% or less). CANNIXX goes a step further: our products are made with pure CBD isolate and contain zero THC.

How CBD Works

Your body has a natural network called the endocannabinoid system (ECS), a system of receptors that helps keep the body in balance, influencing everyday functions like sleep, mood, appetite, and how you respond to stress. CBD is thought to interact with this system, which is why so many people incorporate it into their wellness routines. You don’t need to understand the biology to benefit from CBD, but it helps to know there’s a natural system it works alongside.

Types of CBD: Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum, and Isolate

Not all CBD is the same. There are three main types, and the difference comes down to what’s in them:

  • Full Spectrum: contains CBD plus other cannabinoids, including trace amounts of THC.
  • Broad Spectrum: contains several cannabinoids, with the THC removed.
  • Isolate: pure CBD, and nothing else. No THC, no other compounds.

Full and broad spectrum keep additional compounds for what some call the “entourage effect.” Isolate takes the opposite approach: strip everything away except the CBD itself, for maximum purity.

Why CANNIXX Uses Pure CBD Isolate

CBD comes in several forms, and the right one depends on your routine and your goals.

  • Tinctures: CBD oil taken by mouth; a simple, flexible way to make CBD part of your daily routine.
  • Topicals (like our Therapy Stick): applied directly to the skin for targeted, on-the-spot use.

Each form works a little differently in how quickly you feel it and how long it lasts, so it often comes down to personal preference.

Getting Started

If you’re new to CBD, the golden rule is simple: start low and go slow. Begin with a smaller amount, give your body time to respond, and adjust gradually until you find what feels right for you. Consistency matters too, many people find CBD works best as a regular part of their routine rather than a one-time thing. And it helps to start with your goal in mind, whether that’s winding down at night, recovering after activity, easing everyday stress, or staying focused.

Quality Matters

Because CBD isn’t all made to the same standard, it’s worth choosing a brand you can trust. Look for products that are third-party lab tested, with results you can actually see. At CANNIXX, every batch is tested and every result is available to you, so you always know exactly what you’re getting.

If you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication, or have a medical condition, consult your healthcare provider before using CBD.
